The Hales Family History Society was founded by Kenneth Glyn "Ken" Hales in 1970, known then as The Hales Genealogical Society.

Ken is a retired IBM Advisory Engineer and Manager who became actively involved in Hales Family genealogical research in 1970 while working as a Field Manager for IBM in the San Francisco, California area. A family organization and a quarterly called The Hales Newsletter was started which lasted for nearly eight years and survived IBM moves from Concord, California; to Bakersfield, California; to Walnut Creek, California; to Longmont, Colorado; and to Tucson, Arizona. The Hales Newsletter and The Hales Genealogical Society became inactive in 1981. During the hiatus from 1981 till 1985 Ken privately published his Roots book, Windows, a Mormon Family. In 1995 he also published the First Edition of The Hales Chronicles. Several years ago at the urging of his sons, he reactivated his Hales genealogical activities as the Hales Family History Society and began a new newsletter called appropriately The Hales Newsletter (New Series).

Ken is a past Vice President General of the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution, with responsibilities for the Rocky Mountain District. He descends from an ancestor that served in the Revolutionary War through his grandmother Eva May Burgess Hales. His Hales line, however, came to Canada in 1832 from England.

Ken has previously served as Director of several Family History Centers for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Ken is married to the former Judy Larsen. They are the parents of six sons:
